Flickr = Blackmailr?

By | March 2, 2008

I have the following message coming up when I log in to my flickr account:

Hey ashchopra! About your photos…

You’ve run into one of the limits of a free account. Your free account will only display the most recent 200 photos you’ve uploaded. All of your photos beyond 200 will remain hidden from view until you either delete newer photos, or upgrade to a Pro account.

None of your photos have been deleted, and if you upgrade, they’ll all come back unharmed.

So basically, if I ever want to see all my snaps, I better pay Yahoo $25…hmm….sounds like one of those extortion calls we hear so much of in the movies. Shame on you Yahoo. If you are so short of cash, maybe you should have let Microsoft buy you out!!

Bad bad yahoo…!!!!! No $25 for you!!!

    I really don’t get it why you are so displeased Ash, that Flickr limit is a known thing and can be viewed in their FAQs here. So I wouldn’t call it extortion, they are just reminding you that your older photos won’t be deleted but they will not be shown either in your stream; only last 200 photos will be visible in your stream. But mind you, you or anyone else can view your older photos if you/they know the direct link to the photo page. This is a limit that I’ve seen there for past 3 years I’ve been on Flickr. Why make a big deal? They provide a service, one is free & one is paid; free one is limited in whats given while paid is not, its the case with every provider which gives free service! 🙂

    One way to get around this is to create a private group & post all your photos to that group’s pool. Then you will have direct links to all your photos & get their code to display them where-ever you want. 🙂

    @amit: i’ll tell u why..if they restrict m to storing only 200 photos, makes sense. But letting me store more than 200 snaps, n then tellin m i can only see the first 200 is mindless.

    also, i have no way of going to the older snaps if i wanna delete them, without deleting the newer ones!!! Now u understand why i call it blackmail 😡

    thank god for picasa 🙂

    also, i upload in the same size on both flickr n picasa (1024×768 pixels)
